The popularity of Ornaments was a surprise to us at Sampler
when it was released in the Fall of 1985. We had hoped that we'd sell several
hundred records and a few cassettes at our
concert that year and a few more through a flyer we sent to musical friends we'd
made performing and going to festivals. The reaction to Ornaments
just about overwhelmed us; we received calls and orders from all over the country!
We realized that our small group of friends was sharing the news of the recording
with everyone they knew; our journey to become a "real" business was underway.
Families across the country write to tell us that baking cookies or
decorating the tree while listening to these recordings has become a new
tradition at Christmas time.
We also hear from many folks who play the recordings year-round.
For many Upstate New Yorkers,
the concerts by Mitzie Collins and her musical
colleagues throughout Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse areas signal the
real beginning of the holiday season. 1997 marks the 12th Annual Sampler
Gala Christmas Concert, which can count on an enthusiastic audience of
close to a thousand folks.
Ornamenst, Nowell, and Rejoice are each accompanied by a booklet giving
interesting information on the background of each tune.
